Prenatal

I am in contact through your pregnancy and then we meet for our prenatal meeting near 30-36 weeks. This time together will cover your questions, stages of labor review, and your birth preferences. You’ll know exactly when to call me and we’ll walk through what’s most important to you.

Prenatally, I offer handouts, resources, and you are more than welcome to take my Birth Ed class. It’s very common for me to introduce you to all my favorite people who can also support you (massage, acupuncture, lactation, placenta encapsulation, family doctor, and more).

During Labor

I provide continual, comforting techniques for labor and birth, working to maintain a peaceful birth environment. This may include massage, essential oils, heat packs, candles, honey sticks, and Spinning Babies movement. Continual support is provided until after baby is born, ensuring immediate postpartum care and help with baby’s first feeding.

I have taken a Birth Photography course ** photos are included (as allowed) Check out Instagram: @DoulaKarlson for plenty of birth stories and photos!

Postpartum Follow-Up

We process the birth together, discuss newborn care, address any feeding issues, and I provide additional postpartum resources, if needed. This can be via phone, FaceTime, or in-person.

Your labor timeline is typed up and given, as a gift, if noted during labor.

I stay in touch and I have many repeat families I serve!

Pricing

Repeat families- It is always a joy to serve my repeat families & be a part of your growing family! My repeat families may choose to pay me what they paid at their most recent birth.

New families- Your investment is $2,200. (2 payment choices)

Option 1) Most common: $1100 is paid as deposit upon agreement.  The remaining $1100 is due by 36 weeks.

Option 2) $800 is paid as deposit upon agreement. $600 due by 30 weeks and remaining $800 due by 36 weeks. This is best for those who reach out early and want to spread out the payments.

Additional fee- if outside of my range, such as downtown Chicago, far north (Evanston), Indiana or Wisconsin.

Insurance Reimbursement: Families with Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), FSA (Flex Spending Accounts), or Health Care Sharing (such as Samaritains Ministires) will be happy to know that many programs will reimburse for birth doulas. I have had a handful of families utilize these benefits. If you need a Birth Doula receipt of service, I’m happy to send upon request.

Some insurance companies have reimbursed for Birth Doula services. Contact your Insurance company for more information. I do not have an NPI provider number. It is not common for insurance companies to agree to reimburse and it can be a long process, but asking brings awareness, and I encourage you to try.
